The Last Song

Finished The Last Song (Nicolas Sparks) today. I cried through the last quarter of it. It was so sad, but an amazing story. Sparks did an amazing job at telling this story, not only from main character, Ronnie's point of view but from Steve and Will's as well. It was so cute and I was glued to each page. Recommended for older teens and adults, some of the topics they talk about not really for children. I'm looking forward to picking up another one of Sparks' books, hopefully VERY soon.
Starting Pegasus tonight, we shall see how this one turns out. Not very high expectations....

Several New Books

Did not finish the Warriors yet. I started Avalon High by Meg Cabot. I have always wanted to read a book by Cabot, since she's written so many. Avalon High was really good. Ellie starts off the school year at a new school and instantly feels drawn to the quarterback/president of student body/everybody's favorite guy, Will. Ellie soon finds herself wound up in a modern story of King Arthur, but what she needs to figure out is what role she plays in all this. It was very well written, an amazing story and I loved it.
Today I'm getting Pegasus by Robin McKinley, and The Last Song by Nicolas Sparks. Pegasus looked kinda dumb when I first looked at it on the "Must Read for Teens" on the Barnes and Noble website. But after reading the reviews I decided to get it from the library. The reviews said it was well written and a captivating story about a young girl and her Pegasus. We shall see how this turns out..... The Last Song is supposed to be really good as well and since the movie came out (starring Miley Cyrus) I have been wanting to read the book (I have not seen the movie yet though).
Maybe I will adventually get to finishing Warriors but it's kinda slow and it tends to put me to sleep. It's cute story but a little bit too easy for me.

Mountain Pose

I finally got Halt's Peril (John Flanagan)! It was awesome! Flanagan continues the story from The Kings of Clonmel, as Will, Halt and Horace track down the cult, led by Tennyson back into Araluen. The first half of the book is packed with sarcastic conversation and humor as well as the last eighth or so. But in the middle in completely nerve-wrecking. Halt gets poisoned by an arrow and is on death's doorstep as Will rides hard to find  maybe the only person who might know the cure. Flanagan did an amazing job with this book, I can't wait for the next that comes out in April.
Also, I picked up a book loaned to me a couple months ago, Mountain Pose (Nancy Hope Wilson). It was a cute story about a twelve year old girl, Ellie, who is named heiress of her grandmother's house and farm. Her grandmother never spoke to her and only saw her once in her whole life, at her mother's funeral. But along with the house, Ellie is left and requested to read a collection of diaries written by her great-great grandmother. Through these diaries, Ellie finds out a secret of her family's past.
Just started the Warriors series. Book 1: Into the Wild. So far so good. Rusty a house cat is welcomed into the ThunderClan to become a warrior that they despretaly need. It's a cute book, but a little too easy for me.

Rick Riordan and John Flanagan = Brilliant Authors

Finished The Lost Hero (Rick Riordan)! It was amazing. Not only does Riordan keep the greek mythology but he adds the roman mythology too! It got confusing but it turned out wonderfully. It also goes into more detail on some of the gods not dwelled upon in the Percy Jackson series. Also a main characture is a son of a Roman god so you have a little bit of conflict there. Jason, Piper and Leo go on a quest that leads them from Nevada to New York City to Quebec to California. They have the time of their lives as they look for Piper's dad and the godess Hera, and try to get back Jason's memories (convienently taken by Hera, that dumb godess haha). Annabeth, Chiron, and Rachel also are in it as very minor charactures and Percy is mentioned, he will hopefully be in the next book. The book is filled with the comedy from the original series that everybody found enjoyable. Riordan did an another amazing job and I can't wait for the sequel!
While I wait for Riordan to write and the library to get books (and to go buy books myself) I am reading again, The Kings of Clonmel (book 8 of Ranger's Apprentice series). I love that book. It has adventure, fantasy and plenty of comedy. Again, Horace joins Will and Halt as they go rescue the neighboring country of Clonmel on the island of Hibernia, from a religious cult trying to take control of the island then work their way back over to Areluen. Halt has already some practice with this type of difficulty and this cult specically. It is, again, up to Halt, Will and Horace to save the day.
Not doing much else with reading, hopefully I will be soon.

Slowing Down

Okay, didn't finish Anne of Green Gables series....didn't even finish that book. Oh, well. Today I got the Lost Hero from the library!! I'm so excited! I started it imedietly. I just got passed the part where the sneak peek left off. It's good so far, one character doesn't who he is, another is being controlled by the bad guy and Percy (yes, Percy Jackson and Annabeth are back) is missing. Very exciting! This book should be finished soon!
Since Christmas is drawing near I have been expanding my wish list to include MORE books! Also, I bought a book for my brother, though I'm debating if it's going to be a christmas gift or birthday since his birthday in January. I guess he will just have to wait and see.
I will eventually finish Anne of Green Gables....maybe. =) But I am hoping to soon be buying Halt's Peril for myself. VERY soon, I'm not sure how much longer I can stand it. ;) I will survive, but I still really want that book.
My reading is kinda slow lately, I've been getting busy, but I hope to finish a couple more books before the end of the year!

Matters At Mansfeild

Just finished Matters At Mansfeild (by Carrie Bebris). Man, that was such a confusing book, but it didn't get confusing untill about the middle of the book. It got to the point that somebody died then he wasnt dead and then he was dead and so on. But it was hysterical! I loved it, and can't wait to read the other books by Bebris.
Since I had no books really from the library (I'm waiting for The Lost Hero), I picked up again, Anne of Ingleside. It took a while for me to get back into it. Poor Anne, she attempts again at match making but it turns out that the people she tried to get togther were already engaged. Haha, Anne says she is done match making for the rest of her days. Hopefully, I might be able to finish this series before getting the Lost Hero.

Trying Out A Mystery...

Finished Physik! Again another fun book by Angie Sage. This one was a little different. It had a new bad guy and a couple new characters. Snorri and her NightUllr, Ullr, become the center of several of the chapters and help Jenna and Nicko find Septimus. Septimus has been sent back 500 years by a glass. This was all planned by a not so dead ghost, Queen Ethledredda (I may have spelled that wrong. It's horrible to pronounce). Of course Marcia, and Alther are in it, it wouldn't be a Septimus Heap book with out them! I very much enjoyed this one, especially since Marcia was more of a minor character and Spit Fyre took her spot. =D
My dad bought me a book last week. It is one of the million books written about Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam Darcy (main characters of Pride and Prejudice). Though this one is a little different. It's a mystery. The author (Carrie Bebris) has written three other similar novels. Using the elegant speech of that amazing time period she creates a world never told by Jane Austen. Though not a Austen novel, she does an amazing job of copying the style of writting and complicated grammer, not to mention the huge words, it is one of the funniest books I have ever read!
Tomorrow, I hope to get Queste (4th book of the Septimus Heap series) from the library. I'm looking forward to that.
Hopefully soon, I will have the Lost Hero (book 1 of the Heroes of Olympus series) in my temporary possesion from the libray, but I can imagine the line of people that are waiting for that book so it may be awhile.

Mythology Galore

It took me awhile but I finally got through The Red Pyramid. It was just as good as the Percy Jackson and the Olympians! I loved it, even with the Egyptian mythology twist. I never knew much about Egyptian mythology so the book taught me as much as it entertained me. It got a little confusing as it went back and forth between Carter and Sadie Kane. It is written in first-person the whole time so the changing of people can get discombobulating. The book takes interesting turns as Carter, Sadie and Bast go across the world from Egypt to Arizona. Along the way meeting many other of the Egyptian gods, good and evil. The book doesn't leave it at a horrible ending but bad enough to let you know there will be more coming....but Rick Riordan is a little busy writting the sequel series to Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series: The Heroes of Olympus.
The Lost Hero - book one of The Heroes of Olympus series - is out!!!! Finally! I am deciding if I should wait and just buy when it comes out in paperback or get it from the library and then buy it later. I think it will drive me crazy enough that I will get it from the library though.
I Just started reading Physik - book three in the Septimus Heap series. It is good so far but it is too early to tell. All that has really happened is that  Silas has unleashed the ghost of a queen from centuries ago and she is now taking over the castle staring with Jenna the young princess. We shall see how it goes from there.

This Month: Ranger's Apprentice and The Lost Hero!!

Starting The Red Pyramid tonight. I can't wait, though I am kinda hesitant about starting it because there are no other books out in the series. I will probably just drive myself crazy, like normal.
Getting another Amazon giftcard soon, and then I can buy Artemis Fowl and the Atlantis Complex and Ranger's Apprentice Book 9:Halt's Peril!!!! I can't wait to buy that book!!! It is at the top of my reading list, and will be checked off ASAP! Also, The Lost Hero will be coming out in the next couple days, that will be read quickly too. =D
Haha, well it's late, and I better read so I can get to sleep so I will be able to wake up tomorrow, haha.

Now I'm Wingless

Finished Flyte!! Okay so I waited on Wingless, not Flyte. Haha. But Flyte was good, but I felt like I was waiting for the plot to begin. It was kinda weird. I liked it alot, I was satisfied with the ending. I'm not sure what book is next in the series, but I will hopefully get it soon.
I went to the library the other day and serched the author of The Percy Jackson Series. The Kane Series came up. Only one book is out so far, and it was on the shelf, so I checked it out. It's called the Red Pyramid. I haven't started it yet, but it looks really good.
Will start Wingless tonight!!

Vacation Reading

I went on vacation last week to Assateague Island. When I went I gave myself a challenge. Six books, one week. I brought with me, Flabbergasted, Eon, Flyte (Septimus Heap series #2), The Atlantis Complex (Artemis Fowl series #7), Leviathan and Mountain Pose. I finished Flabergasted, read The Atlantis Complex and Leviathan and began Flyte.
I began Flabergasted a while ago (written by Ray Blackston), but never really gotten into it. It was a book written from a 27-year-old guy's point of view. Not exactly what I'm into. But it was good and I got through it.
I gave up on Eon. It is written well, but it has the dumbest plot, I think. It just drones on and on and ON! I just can't seem to finish it.
The Alantis Complex was another amazing edition to the Artemis Fowl series. This one was a little weird though because Artemis gets a dual personality by the name of Orion who is in love with Holly. Weird, right? But it still was an Artemis Fowl book.
Leviathan was a really good book. I highly enjoyed it. It is written by Scott Westerfeild, best selling author Uglies. It has two main charactures, Alek and Deryn. It is placed in Austia-Hungry, Britain, and Switzerland right as World War I begins. It has a twist to it as Britain and her allies are called the Darwinists who have thier animal-crafts and Austia-Hungry, Germany and thier allies are called the Clankers and have metal walking machines. Unfortunatly, I have to wait for the sequal to come out in oder to finish the story.
I began Flyte the day before leaving on vacation. I haven't gotten that far into it, only the forth chapter, but already you know who one of the bad guys is. I am really looking forward to getting into that book.
But Flyte will have to wait a little while. Today, I was given a book written by a friend of mine's older brother. It isn't published yet, but he was a writting major in college and would like to get it published. His book is called Wingless and is about Faeries who get trapped in our world, adapt and become wingless, all the while hoping that their native people will come and rescue them. I am excited to begin it!
I have not read Mountain Pose at all. A friend of my sister's let me borrow it. I'm not sure how much I will like it, but we shall see.
That's all I have for now,

Stupid Mistake...

I am going to go CRAZY!!!!
I made a mistake in going to the camphalfblood website to read the preview to The Lost Hero (The Heroes of Olympus series), and now I'm hooked and the book doesn't even come out till OCTOBER!!! It is killing me!!!
Well the next Artemis Fowl book is out and I'm waiting to read that. And the next Ranger's Apprentice book is coming out in October!
Well really I'm just waiting for books and trying to get through the ones I get from the library...right now my reading life is boring and annoying!!!!

Saturday, August 21, 2010

The Percy Jackson series is officially finished!!!!! The Last Olympian was amazing, lots of battles. I was mostly satisfied with the ending, though it kind of left it open to another book. The Author is working on another series that is coming out soon about Camp Half-blood but different charectures. I will miss Percy and Annabeth, but hopefully they will be minor charectures AT LEAST!!
Started Eon, it is a good book, but would not recomend it for guys or children under 11. Has some references that does not need to be discussed with small children. But is interesting and put in an asian setting, which is amazing! Eon is already starting his adventures. We shall see how it ends, it seems to be taking longer to finish than I expected.
Also got Labryinth from the library. It is set in World War II and Labrynth is the name of the ship. Don't know much else.
Amazon is amazing!! Bought 8 books for just over 50 dollars!!! Thanks to my dad giving me gift cards. =) I bought the first 3 Artemis Fowl and the whole Percy Jackson series. Unfortunately they are all in paperback. And I also made the mistake in not checking all the books to make sure they were what I want. They second Artemis Fowl (The Artic Incident) was actually written in a comic book way instead of the actual book. Whoops. But I have decided not to return it but buy actual book and give the comic to my brother because he would enjoy that more than I would.
Reading more tonight..

Finally finished Magyk. It didn't take me as long as Inkdeath but it still seemed to take forever. It is a good book, I predicted the ending and (of course) I was right ;).
Tonight, I'm debating if I should finish The Last Olympian or start Eon. I think I will finish The Last Olympian. Eon can wait, hopefully....

Finally...I checked a book off =)

Okay, I have done a lot of reading since my last post. So... I finished The Battle of the Labyrinth. It made me mad at the end when Annabeth and Percy wouldn't talk to each other. It was good full of action and some humor. But I was sevearly depressed because Riordan ends it with it leading straight into the last book, The Last Olympian, with a horrible cliff hanger. Unfortunately, I didn't have the last book. =/
I went to the Library and got Magyk by Angie Sage. It's the first book of the Septimus Heap Series. I'm still reading it, though I am ALMOST done. It is really good, it through me off when I started predicting the ending and then she went a different way, but it is really good. I like the characters, very well written.
I also got Eon:Dragoneye Reborn. I haven't read it yet, but it looks really good. It's about a 12 year old boy training to be an apprentice of one of the great Dragoneyes. Turns out Eon, is actually Eona a 16 year old girl, hoping for the chance to become a dragoneye. Like I said, it's sounds good. =)
I also got The Last Olympian, finally. I started it, which was a bad idea. Percy is no longer "with" Annabeth. He is with Rachel, I like Rachel but I REALLY want him with Annabeth. I'm only 2 chapters into it and already I'm attached. It's killing me that I have to finish Magyk before I can read it again.
Well, I need to update my lists so, that's all. =)

List getting longer instead of shorter.....

Finished How To Be A Pirate yesterday afternoon. Luckily I went to the library to pick up The Battle of the Labyrinth. How To Train Your Dragon series, is definitely a children's series. It's a really really easy read and it's reasonably short. It's a cute series, the characters are funny, and it is well thought out. I can't wait to get the next one, How To Speak Dragonese.
So, I am now reading The Battle of the Labyrinth. Already there are new monsters and problems for Percy. He and Annabeth are "almost" dating, but their date was interupted by Percy almost getting killed (again). Now at camp they meet up with Grover. But everything is upside down even there. Grover loses his searcher's license, and Luke is sailing on his demon infested cruise ship. It should get even more intersting....
I'm having a major problem. I updated my summer reading list the other night. I didn't take any books off, but I added five. Last time I checked a reading list is suppposed to get shorter not longer. GRR. I frustrate myself sometimes. My list will hopefully be getting shorter now that I added the rest of the Percy Jackson series and How To Train Your Dragon series on there.

Camping with out my Books. ='(

I finished The Titan's Curse yesterday. Great book, still the same as the first two of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. It was funny and thrilling all in one. Now that Percy is now 14, he gets a little bit closer to his good friend Annabeth, so the last two should be interesting.
My only problem is, I am out of books to read. We are camping at a private campground and The Titan's Curse was the only book I brought with me. I guess that was a dumb move on my part, but oh well. Going home tomorrow and I will pick up How to be A Pirate (book 2 of How to Train Your Dragon). I'm not sure how much I will be reading though, I won't be home again till next Saturday (maybe) because of a camp I'm going to. But that's all for now.

More books........

I finished The Sea of Monsters. It had a cliff hanger ending (like I predicted) and I HAD to get the next one. I started The Titan's Curse this afternoon but I haven't finished the first chapter yet.
Also I got How To Be A Pirate (How To Train Your Dragon book 2) from the library. Plan to finish both of those in the next week....

Checking Books off Fast!!!!!

Finished How To Train Your Dragon the other night. It was good, but I liked the movie better (for once).
Now I'm reading The Sea of Monsters (book 2 of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series). It is really good like the first. I haven't finished it yet but I'm almost done. Not sure what I'm going to read next but I will figure something out.

Let the Summer Reading Begin......

Summer is actually here!!! Got several books to read from the library the other day, including, The Sea of Monsters (Book 2 of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series), Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and How to Train Your Dragon.
I have finished Diary of a Wimpy Kid. It was okay, not my favorite. I pretty sure the author was an actual fifth grader though, haha, just kidding.
I'm reading How to Train Your Dragon now and it is WAY different from the movie. The only thing they got right was the character names, it's worse than Prince Caspian. It is interesting, definitely below my reading level though. Getting through it quickly hoping to finish it in the next few days. I read the first Percy Jackson book awhile ago, but I haven't gotten around to the second. So I planning on reading it ASAP.
Still haven't finished Airman yet.....I can't seem to get through it, it puts me to sleep. It's a very interesting book, but it's not captivating me like other books I read. Its really starting to annoy me. But oh well.
I'm really not getting anywhere on my summer reading list. But I still have a couple months left.....

Airman, To the Top of the List

Finished The Kings of Clonmel last night, about midnight. Amazing book, it is funny, exciting, and it glues your eyes to the page. I loved it, unhappy with the ending but I have read few books that I actually liked the ending, haha.
Well now I'm reading Airman again. It took me a little bit to remember what was happening, but I'm okay now. I like the book, it's full of adventure. But there's something about it, that I don't like. I can't figure out what it is. Maybe it's the fact that it's non-fiction. I do much better reading fiction....
Well, I plan to join the teen reading club for the summer. It gets me reading even more. I have a whole summer reading list, to read this summer, but it keeps getting longer....haha....well better go read......

Back to Halt, Will and Horace...

I finished the Time Paradox. It was as amazing as ever. =) But it confused me just as much as Artemis was confusing the bad guy, haha.
I started reading Airman by Eoin Colfer. It is good, a little harder read then Artemis Fowl, but interesting all the same.
I'm almost done with Airman, but we went to Barnes and Noble the other night. And my dad bought me my book and a half. I got the 8th Ranger's Apprentice and a new book from the series Warriors. It looks very interesting. The first one is called Into the Wild. I don't know the author off the top of my head, but I will find out soon.
I started reading the Kings of Clonmel, and for the first 3 chapters it is good. Exciting, and already the plot is building.
My summer reading list is getting longer, and my dad keeps adding some. They will be done though, because I'm determined to, haha.

Good bye Corneilla Funk, Hello Eoin Colfer

I finished Inkdeath two nights ago. I was very content with the ending, which is surprising, I NEVER like the endings to books. Everybody turned out the way Inkheart portrayed them (good thing too), and they lived "happily ever after." Well, mostly, you never have ALL the characters completely satisfied with EVERYTHING, that is just physically impossible, fiction or reality.
Time Paradox is good, just like all the others. But I'm only six chapters into it so maybe I should wait to give a review, but so far it is nerve wreaking, for me and tend to get into the book more than necessary.
Ranger's Apprentice #8: The King's of Clonmel came out yesterday, hoping to buy it soon. That is all the news I have for now,

Will be done......soon.......I hope ;)

Still reading Inkdeath, and STILL haven't figured out if I like it or not. It is a great read but LONG..... Out of 81 chapters I am on 53. I got Artemis Fowl: The Time Paradox out at the Library to give me some inspiration to finish it.
Well, better go read or I will NEVER be done.

Inkdeath

Still reading Inkdeath. I can't seem to decide if I like the book or not. I was the same way with the first two. The are captivating stories, well written, well planned and tremendous plots, but they are confusing and somewhat depressing. In Inkdeath, where I am now, none of the characters know who they are anymore. Meggie, one of the lead characters, seems to be mad at everyone and holds a grudge for like EVER!!! I will have to finish the book and see......

Artemis Fowl, it's time for a break.......

I have finished the Lost Colony, and just so you know, it has a cliff hanger ending.....I hate those. It is driving me nutts!!! I finished it last week, I have started a new book and haven't gotten The Time Paradox from the Library yet.
I started Inkdeath. The third and conclusion the Inkheart Trilogy. Inkspell, also had a cliff hanger, but for some reason it bother me as much..... I am sooooo weird. Haha. Well, it is a really thick book, but I am hoping to be done with it sometime next week.
Still waiting for The Kings of Clonmel (Ranger's Apprentice Book 8) to come out. The publishing date is the 18th of THIS MONTH!!!! Can't wait!!!! Also the 9th book (Halt's Peril) is coming out this year on October 5th! This year is soooo amazing.
Well, besides my summer reading list, I have to add the history books I never got to reading this year. It's mostly plays and stuff like that but I'm really not looking forward to it...hmmmm well that's all for now.

Four down, three to go.....

Still in the Artemis Fowl series. But I have finished the first, second, third and fourth, and highly enjoying the fifth. All of the books have the same story line, but Eoin Colfer mixes it up more and more each book. The seventh Artemis Fowl comes out in August and I plan to read it ASAP. =)
Also, in between AF, I have continued the Anne of Green Gables chronicles. I have finally made it to the sixth book, Anne of Ingelside.
Amazingly those are the only books I am reading now.
I am looking forward to next month when Ranger's Apprentice Book 8 comes out in stores.
Concerning books, my life is content. Well, except for the fact that Christopher Paolini (author of the Inheritance cycle) is taking FOREVER to write the concluding book to his series. No author has made me so mad in all my life.
Well, after a long day of NOTHING, I think I will go climb in bed, pick of Artemis Fowl: The Lost Colony and dive in, reading. NIGHT!!!!

hmmmmm....that didn't work.

Okay, so the "book of the week" thing didn't work. So now I'm just going to go on about a book I just read. Last night I read Artemis Fowl, by Eoin Colfer. It's about a twelve year old, child prodigy. Not only is he a genius but a criminal mastermind and millionaire as well. He has an ambition to steal the priceless gold of the fairies. It has really long chapters, but not a hard read. I definitely recommend this book and will put it on my favorite book list.

NEW MOON: THE TWILIGHT SAGA

New Moon is book two in Stephanie Meyer's series. In this book, Bella is faced with the fact that she is growing up. On her eighteenth birthday, she continues to persist her changing. At her birthday party with the Cullens, she cuts her finger and everything goes wrong. After that, she realizes a difference in Edward. A couple days later Alice isn't at school and Edward announces that they are leaving. He leaves her in the woods, confused and heartbroken. She goes through five months of depression. When she tries to actually do something, she finds herself with an adrenalin rush. The first thing she notices is when she does things stupid or reckless, she can "see" Edward again, and hear his voice telling her not to do it. She begins to think of things to cause the apparition again. She buys two motorcycles and takes them to the Quileute Reservation near her house. Jacob fixes them for her and she becomes dependent on him. But after a night at the movies with Jacob and Mike, Jacob begins to avoid Bella as much as possible. She strives to find the reason. After she confronts him and he refused to talk to her or answer her questions, he appears at her bedroom window after dark. He comes up and tells her to remember. After she figures things out she goes back to the reservation to talk to him. Jake is very happy that she figured it out, but the other members of the "pack" are not. But eventually they all are over and Bella is welcomed 24/7 at the reservation. After a couple weeks, Bella once again does something stupid and Alice shows up at her house. Alice is surprised to see Bella alive. Then she announces that something is going wrong. Edward is going to Italy. Her and Alice rush to the airport to save Edward's life.

That is all I'm going to say... Go get the book yourself...

L. M. Montgomery

Lucy Maud Montgomery was born on November 30, 1874, in Clifton, Prince Edward Island. Her parents, Hugh Montgomery, a former sea captain turned merchant, and Clara Macneill Montgomery, came from large, long-established, and eminentPrince Edward Island families. Clara Montgomery died before her daughter, was two years old, and her grief-stricken father sent her to live with her elderly, strictly Presbyterian maternal grandparents at their isolated farmhouse in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island.
Young Maud was a solitary child, sensitive, imaginative, and rather out of place in her grandparents' household. She found respite in books, notably Dickens, Scott, Byron, and Longfellow, and in writing stories and poems of her own, a talent which she developed at a very early age.
In 1890 her father, now remarried and with a new family, asked Maud to join him in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, and she spent the next year in the Canadian West. She found her stepmother uncongenial and her father too busy with a variety of enterprises--business, political, and social--to be much of a companion. However, she soon made several close friends. Although she was thrilled in November 1890 when her first published work, a poem, appeared in the Charlottetown,Prince Edward Island, Daily Patriot, she was equally excited to return to Prince Edward Island in August 1891.
In 1893 Maud went to Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown to prepare for a teaching career. She taught in rural schools for three years, finding the work rather taxing and less rewarding than she had hoped, but she was able to devote several hours a day to writing. By the mid-1890s she had achieved moderate success as a writer, having had many stories and poems published for money.
Intelligent, energetic, ambitious, and strong-willed, Maud was also very feminine. She loved fashionable clothes, was grateful for her slim good looks, and enjoyed the company and admiration of men. Like most young women of her era, Maud believed that marriage was the highest occupation for women, and she looked forward to her own marriage and children. However, she had high standards--her husband would have to meet certain social and educational criteria--and she had a romantic nature. In 1897 she became engaged to a suitable young man, but she quickly became disillusioned with him. While engaged she met and became involved with another wholly unsuitable young man, whom she thought she loved but knew she could never marry. Within a few months she had broken with both men and henceforth ceased to look for or expect romantic love.
Maud's grandfather died in 1898, and for the next 13 years, with the exception of a brief stint as a reporter for a Halifax newspaper in 1901, she lived with and cared for her aging grandmother in Cavendish. Her life there was very constrained, but she found enjoyment in writing and produced poems and stories which, by the early 1900s, provided considerable income. During this time she also began what were to become two of her most important long-term friendships, based almost entirely on correspondence, with Canadian teacher Ephraim Weber and Scottish journalist G.B. MacMillan. In her long letters to these sympathetic friends she was able to express her hopes and fears as a writer.
In 1907 Maud's previously rejected first novel was accepted by a publisher. Anne of Green Gables, the appealing story of an imaginative, irrepressible, red-headed orphan girl who was adopted by two elderly Prince Edward Islanders was published by the L.C. PageCompany of Boston in 1908. It was an immediate and tremendous success with readers of all ages and both sexes. With some surprise Maud wrote a friend, "Anne seems to have hit the public taste." Among the thousands of fan letters Maud received was one from Mark Twain, who described her heroine as "the dearest and most lovable child in fiction since the immortal Alice." A sequel, Anne of Avonlea , followed in 1909 (there eventually were eight Anne books) and, despite not having received very favorable royalty terms from her publisher, Maud's professional and financial success was assured.
Maud's grandmother died in March 1911, and four months later she married Ewan MacDonald, an attractive, amiable, conscientious Presbyterian minister to whom she had been secretly engaged for five years. After a honeymoon in the British Isles, the MacDonalds returned to Canada, where Ewan resumed his pastoral duties in Leaskdale, Ontario. Maud found that being a minister's wife involved endless rounds of meetings, sewing bees, Sunday school classes, choir practice, and visits. Although she did not enjoy these activities and found herself temperamentally unsuited to them, Maud, with her keen sense of duty, performed them with skill and grace. To these responsibilities she soon added those of a mother (she had two sons: Chester, in 1912, and Stuart, in 1915), and she continued to write. Her busy and full life required very careful organization, and she often felt strained and exhausted.
World War I was a source of great concern to Maud, and her relief over the end of the war was soon overwhelmed by a series of travails. In January 1919 her cousin and closest friend, Frederica Campbell, died. Later in the same year her husband suffered an attack of what was termed "religious melancholia," a feeling of hopeless certainty of eternal damnation. Worried for her children (mental illness was believed to be hereditary), Maud also was horrified that others would learn of Ewan's illness. She sought medical help in Toronto and in Boston, but little was forthcoming. After several months Ewan recovered, but he remained subject to attacks at irregular and unpredictable intervals for the rest of his life. Henceforth Ewan became a source of chronic anxiety for Maud. In addition, in 1920 she became engaged in a series of acrimonious, expensive, and very trying lawsuits with publisher L.C. Page, which dragged on until Maud finally won in 1929.
Maud did find consolations in the 1920s, however. Her growing sons were always a source of delight and pride to her. In 1926 the family moved to Norval, Ontario, where Ewan became the minister of a smaller and friendlier congregation. In the early 1920s Maud created a new, highly autobiographical heroine, Emily of New Moon, who proved nearly as popular as Anne. Her achievements were recognized when in 1923 she became the first Canadian woman to be named a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in England. She was further honored in August 1927 when she was asked to meet the visiting Prince of Wales (the future Edward VIII) and the British prime minister and Anne of Green Gables fan, Stanley Baldwin.
The 1930s continued Maud's successes and anxieties. Several new juvenile books were well received. She was invested with the Order of the British Empire in 1935, and in 1936 the Canadian government created a national park on Prince Edward Island in and around Cavendish because of the renown Maud's books had brought the area. Ewan's health, however, was her primary concern. In 1935, after a series of physical ailments, he had a complete breakdown and was institutionalized for months. He slowly improved, but, overwhelmed by stress, Maud had a brief breakdown of her own. In 1935 Ewan retired, and the MacDonalds moved to Toronto, where their sons were at college. Ewan and Maud both had breakdowns again in 1937, but both recovered, and by the spring of 1939 Maud wrote that she was feeling better than she had in years.
Her recovery was of short duration, however. The outbreak of World War II depressed her greatly. Ewan's health declined, and, after a bad fall in 1940, Maud herself became very ill. Her condition worsened in 1941, and she died on April 24, 1942.
The author of over 20 books and hundreds of short stories and poems, Maud never felt she had achieved what she had aimed for--her "great" book. She was appreciative of her financial and popular successes and felt that her work was well-done as far as it went, but she recognized and regretted her limitations. Serious critics agreed with her, and for years she was dismissed as a hack writer of children's books. In the last quarter of the 20th century, however, as part of their search for a unique Canadian identity, Canadian scholars devoted a great deal of attention to L.M. Montgomery and the continued popularity of her works.

This the biography of Lucy Maud Montgomery. I hope you will look into her other books.

Anne of Green Gables

The first book in the Anne of Green Gables series begins with Anne - an 11-year old orphan - accidentally getting sent to live with Mathew and Marrila Cuthbert, elderly siblings who live together on Prince Edward Island. Anne soon finds trouble to get into as she loses her temper several times. Her temper and wild imagination get her in trouble plenty of times throughout out the book, as she befriends Diana and be-enemies Gilbert Blythe. Marrila finds herself going crazy raising Anne, while Mathew understands Anne perfectly. I hope I gave you a clear snyompis to the book. I won't be writing for the next to days... well maybe it depends on when I get my e-reader with wi-fi.

Next week I hope to start a "Book of the Week." I will pick a book off my shelf (or one that I have read since my library does not contain all the books I have read) and spend the week talking about it. My favorite things, about the author, the best chapter, about the characters ect. I will have a schedual of three weeks on the side bar so you can start reading the books and have your input on it. Well need to get started,

IT IS FINISHED! Now on to the next book....

So last night I read the last five chapters in Anne of Avonlea. But instead of continuing the series I picked up The Long Winter from The Little House on the Prairie Series by Laura Ingles Wilder. When I picked it up I noticed a page corner folded down. I looked at it then remembered that I started it a couple months ago and put it down when I reached the exact middle of the book (no joke). I love the Little House series, it has always been one of my favorites. Lately we have been watching the TV show off of Netflix. My family enjoys and always look forward to getting it in the mail. Well since I have finished my school today, I will now go type up my novel.

Current Reads

Okay.... so lets get this started. Currently, I am reading New Moon (second book in the Twilight Saga) for the second time, and Anne of Avonlea (the second book in the Anne of Green Gables series). I just finished reading No Place For Magic, by E. D. Baker (fourth book in the Tales of the Frog Princes series). I'm planning to start Daughter of Venice as soon as I can get it from my library. The one problem is that my library has the worst book collection in the world! I was relieved when my county did all county card, and rotated books around. So the books I always get are from a completely different library.
